Bontril - What is it?
Bontril® (phendimetrazine tartrate) is available only on prescription and is meant for weight loss. It has been approved for only short term use and should be used with a combination of proper diet. Bontril is available in two forms, one is Bontril PDM, a short acting version and another is Bontril SR, a long acting version.

Bontril acts by suppressing the appetite and could also increase metabolism. Chemically, it is similar to amphetamines.

* Bontril is available in the form of long acting capsule and short acting tablet. The tablets are required to be taken twice or thrice a day whereas the capsules are to be taken once a day.
* The Bontril SR capsules are to be taken 30 minutes to 60 minutes prior to breakfast whereas the Bontril PDM tablets are to be taken 60 minutes prior to meals.
* Bontril must be accompanied by a proper diet and it is not to be taken without dieting.
* Bontril PDM tablets could be divided in half whereas the Bontril SR capsules are not to be crushed, opened or chewed.
* Bontril must not be had in higher dosage than recommended. Doing so could result in dependency or addiction.
* For Bontril to be effective, it should be taken as per prescription.

Bontril – What to do in case of an overdose?
Some of the below mentioned symptoms may be experienced in case of a Bontril overdose:
* Hyperactivity
* Pain in the muscle
* High blood pressure
* Rapid breathing
* Confusion
* Changes in heart rhythm (known as arrhythmia)
*Vomiting or nausea
* Low blood pressure
* Diarrhea
* Fever
* Seizures
* Tremors
* Assertiveness
* Hallucinations
* Death.

Bontril – How should it be stored?
Bontril capsules and tablets need to be stored in an airtight container, away from moisture and heat and at room temperature. As in the case of all medicines, Bontril should be kept out of the reach of children.
Bontril – What to do in case of a missed dose?
In case you miss taking Bontril as per schedule, you can take the missed dose immediately on remembering. But, if it is already time for your next dose, you should skip the dose that you missed and carry on with your usual schedule. Never take a double dose of medication.
