Bontril - Uses
Bontril Uses - Overview
Bontril® (phendimetrazine tartrate) is a weight loss medication. It can be obtained only with a prescription and is approved only for short term. It is not meant for long term use or to be used without a diet program.
With an increase in obesity, a lot of people are seeking products that could help them lose weight. Though, the model weight loss program should strive to achieve gradual weight loss through a balanced diet and exercise regimen, a lot of people find it difficult to follow such programs or believe they require additional assistance to compliment their efforts. Before opting for extreme measures as weight loss surgery, a lot of people opt for weight loss medication, particularly if they have unsuccessfully tried to manage their obesity and where diet and exercise have not proved to be effective.
Obesity can be classified in two categories; one is endogenous obesity and the other, exogenous obesity. Endogenous obesity is the result of a certain medical condition, for instance hypothyroidism. Exogenous obesity is a result of over eating or lack of physical activity. The use of Bontril is intended for treating exogenous obesity and should not be used for treating obesity that is a caused by a known medical condition.
In case of adults, obesity is defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and above. People who have a BMI ranging between 25 and 30 are regarded overweight and not obese. Some of the causes of obesity could be lack of exercise, overeating and certain medical conditions, for example, hypothyroidism. Obesity could have many ill effects on your health such as type 2 diabetes, strokes and heart disease.
The use of Bontril is approved only for a short term, probably for a few weeks to be had in combination with diet in treating obesity for people who are 12 years or older. Bontril acts as an appetite suppressant and could also help in increasing metabolism. On using Bontril for a few weeks, the appetite suppressant property of the drug usually diminishes. When this occurs, the use of this drug should be stopped and in no circumstance the drug should be continued or its dosage increased.
