Adipex – What is it used for?
Adipex-P® (phentermine) is available only on prescription and is meant for weight loss. This weight loss medication has been approved for only short term use and it has to be used with a combination of exercise, diet and behavioral adjustment. Adipex-P is permitted for the treatment of people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more or a BMI of 27 or more if they have other risk factors, for instance diabetes or high cholesterol.
With an increase in obesity, there are a lot of people who are seeking easy ways of weight reduction. Though, the ideal plans for weight loss should focus on steady weight loss attained by exercising and healthy eating, a lot of people find it difficult to follow such plans. Prior to considering drastic measures, for example, such as weight loss surgery, a lot of people contemplate using medications for weight loss, particularly if they have ineffectively tried to fight their obesity and dieting and exercising have not been effective.
Obesity is categorized as endogenous obesity and exogenous obesity. In the case if endogenous obesity, it is a result of an identifiable medical condition, for instance hypothyroidism. In the case of exogenous obesity, it is a result of over eating and lack of exercise. Adipex-P is to be used by people with exogenous obesity and should not be used for treating obesity that is a result of a known medical condition.
Adipex-P is permitted to be used for a short term, for instance a few weeks. It should be had with a combination of exercise, diet and behavior adjustment to treat obesity in adults. Adipex-P works by suppressing the appetite and could also increase metabolism. After a prolonged use, the appetite suppressant effects of Adipex-P diminish. When this occurs, the use of Adipex-P should be discontinued and in no case should the dosage be increase or continued.
Adipex – How does it work?
Adipex-P signals the brain that it is full and results in suppressed appetite. It could also increase metabolism. Chemically, it is related to amphetamines.
